Date and time

WHEEL PULLING MEANS MORE DAYS IN THE FIELD

At Samson Agrolize, you can't stop the rain, but you can still send the slurry tanker to the field a few days earlier.
Wheel traction protects the ground and saves fuel, points out Sales Manager Søren Hansen.

With full slurry tanks, high temperatures and plants on the verge of explosive growth, every farmer knows that the moment the field can support a slurry tanker, it's time to get moving.

- I live on an abandoned farm near Brovst, where I grew up, and I've never seen so much water in the fields as now. With the current weather forecast, it will be several weeks before you can even walk on the waterlogged fields, says Sales Manager Søren Hansen at Samson Agrolize in Viborg.

There's no doubt that it will be busy when the weather in the field is good enough for slurry delivery. However, it is just as certain that Samson wheeled slurry trailers will be the first to begin the hectic weeks of delivering slurry to hungry plants.

- Since we introduced the first wheel drive slurry trailers in 2005, we've seen how this technology both increases capacity and adds extra days to the important work. A slurry tanker with wheel drive is just more maneuverable in wet conditions than other trucks, Søren Hansen points out.

Full hydraulic power transfer

With the development of the so-called fully hydraulic HWD trucks from 2015, Samson added another set of advantages by running with wheel drive on the slurry tanker's fixed axle.

- This made the trucks fully hydraulic in principle, as a PTO-driven pump unit at the rear of the tractor drives everything. This allows you to drive at sharp angles, turn faster and makes it easier to position the truck correctly when filling. The pump unit has two pumps and avoids unnecessarily high power consumption for useless agitation in the tank, which means that full power is transferred to propulsion, explains Søren Hansen.

- This means up to 50 hp more propulsion power for the same money, says the sales manager about the real fuel savings this technology brings.

- From my side with the turnover in SAMSON wear parts and spare parts I estimate that activity has increased fivefold since we formalized the service partner collaboration," says Warehouse Manager Søren Thomsen, showing us around the shelves with SAMSON spare parts.

Good for the earth

A few extra days of accessibility in the fields at the start of the slurry season isn't the only benefit of wheel pulling.

Søren Hansen highlights the overall benefit of reducing tractor wheel slip from 10-12 percent to a maximum of a few percent for fuel economy as well as tractose and kneading of topsoil in and around the tracks.

- We also see a lot of cases where the conditions are good, but you can now drive with a full load both up and down hills, which significantly reduces wasteful driving. The wheel drive simply utilizes the tractor's power better throughout the season, he says.

Ready to drive in the field

At Samson Agrolize, the exclusive distributor of Samson slurry trailers in Denmark, they notice the trend among contractors and larger farms.

- For example, in the last full season, the share of HWD wheel drive loader wagons has now increased to 45 percent of all wagons we deliver to the Danish market. This means that more and more people have already prepared for the extreme conditions with more precipitation we are now experiencing," says Søren Hansen.

With the establishment of Samson Agrolize as the sole distributor of Samson slurry equipment in Denmark a few years ago, the company also has the country's largest selection of used ready-made wheeled tractor units.

- Our specialized employees in the workshop have come a long way and at the moment we have a number of prepared wheeled tractors here in the used center in Viborg - ready to hook up, says the sales manager.

Sales Manager at Samson Agrolize, Søren Hansen, highlights Samson wheeled tractors as more passable in wet conditions. - This adds a few more hours in early spring, especially when it gets very wet like this year, he points out.

This Samson PG II with hydraulic wheel drive can run several working hours over the course of a season. Especially at the beginning of the season, when there is pressure to get slurry spreading underway, it has its advantages. But also during the rest of the season, the fully hydraulic wheeled tractor unit shines with lower fuel consumption.
